Changing the Conversation About GLP-1 Weight Loss

Helen Bligh is the author of It Was NEVER About Willpower and specialises in women's GLP-1 health.

"Eat less and move more" has been the advice given to lose weight for years. If weight loss and weight maintenance were as simple as counting calories in and calories out, you’d have won your battle before now.

Yes, the basic physics are true; there does need to be an energy (calorie) balance for stable weight, but you are not a combustion engine.

Your body is way more sophisticated than that.  And this is rarely discussed.

And that's why I wrote my book. Because I heard so many women wondering what was "wrong" with them.  Women talking about their "metabolism", without really understanding what that means.  And women believing they were "addicted" to food, not understanding what was happening in their bodies which was driving their appetite and hunger.

The problems of believing that calorie balance is the whole story, is that it leads to shame, guilt and feelings of failure.  And that isn't healthy for anyone to feel.

GLP-1s are changing the underlying biology which made weight loss so difficult before. It was never about willpower. And the body needs specific nourishment during this time - not just calorie restriction.

Common Questions

What is GLP-1?

GLP-1 (Glucagon-Like Peptide-1) is a hormone that helps regulate blood sugar and appetite. It is a key target for weight loss medications, working by slowing digestion and reducing hunger signals to help women manage their health more effectively.
